CHAPTER 7

The next few days of school were like a dream or nightmare, or both. I took my exams and went to my classes, but it was like I was in some kind of a fog. I was waiting for something, anything, to happen, but it was just so blah .

I thought about removing the dreamcatchers and trying to find the boy again, but I was too afraid I would be summoned by Ash. Great, now I was calling that Demon by name. Careful, Grazi, don’t get confused. He is not a regular boy.

I needed to learn more about invitations and accepting them before I tried leaving this plane of reality for another. What I needed was more information. Who I needed was Less. I looked around me. There were no teachers in the hallway at that moment so I took out my cell phone and texted him. Hopefully he would get back to me before the end of the day.

“Ooh, we got a little rebel here, girls!” I recognized the sound of Lizette’s voice. She was one of my cousin’s clones. She was short, about five foot one inch, with streaks of blonde all through her dark hair. She often wore it in a copy of Julianna’s hairstyle.

Today they all had their hair curled in matching half-pony tails with large red and green bows. They looked sort of like human Christmas presents. Very festive, ladies. Yuck.

It was easy enough to remain silent at first. I wondered at the subtle shift in leadership amongst them. You see, my cousin, Julianna, taller than most of them, beautiful with her flawless skin, blue eyes, highlighted blonde hair and plump lips was usually in charge, but not today.

She stood more to the rear of the group as Lizette and Jennifer, a petite blonde cheerleader, also in Julianna’s, class circled me. Like crows waiting to peck the meat off of some kind of road kill. Boy, did they have that backwards.

“Well, what do you think, Jules? Is your freakishly tall cousin here, a rebel? Does she break the rules at home too? Uh, uh, uh. Looks like I’m gonna to have to tell Sr. Diane that I saw a student on her cell phone between classes. That’s a definite no-no!” She chortled and high-fived Jennifer. I cocked my head to the side and took in a breath to calm myself. It’s not that she was really hurting my feelings, but I had way more important things to deal with than these two clones.

That’s when I smelled it. It was very faint, like someone tried to cover it up with perfume and hairspray, but it was there. The ultra-sweet to the point of rotting smell of dark magic. I zeroed in on my cousin. She wasn’t looking at me or at her friends. In fact, she looked a little afraid. I tried to will her to look at me, but it seemed that wasn’t one of my Werewolf abilities.

“So, what are we going to do about you, then?” Lizette walked up to me and pointed a perfectly manicured nail right at me.
